Johannesburg is a golfers' paradise with more golf courses in one city than probably anywhere else in the world.

From the central business district of Houghton, over 25 golf courses in Johannesburg are within a 30 minute drive and are home to 2 of the country’s golfing legends - Gary Player and Ernie Els.

Factor in year-round sunshine and highly competitive pricing and it's no wonder this town has a major share of golfing fanatics.  Green fees are remarkably affordable with weekday access and a favorable exchange rate with the South African Rand generally being in your favor.

Steeped in tradition, Houghton Golf Club is one of South Africa's premier golfing venues. The course has a proud history as a championship facility having hosted no fewer than eight SA Open events, the first of which took place in 1951. The course too has been the chosen venue for the prestigious Alfred Dunhill Championship. A firm favourite amongst the Highveld golfing fraternity its original design dates from 1926. A.M. Copland, the club's first professional, was the course architect, laying out the course on a thickly treed tract of land featuring considerable undulation. Houghton's underlying qualities as a test of golf have not been radically altered with the passing of the years, though, to stay abreast of developments in the game the decision was taken to appoint the Jack Nicklaus design group as the course architects for the new layout.

Glendower Golf Club is an exquisitely designed, highly ranked parkland golf course in Gauteng, South Africa. Currently ranked 2 in South African and 1 in Gauteng. A challenging golf course set amidst gorgeous surroundings, Glendower Golf Club is said to be a test for the world’s best golfers, hence the welcome return in 2013 where Morten Orum Madsen was victorious in lifting the trophy. Then in January 2015, Glendower hosted the prestigious 104th South African Open Championship, where Andy Sullivan won in a dramatic play-off against Charl Schwartzel to claim victory. Over a century of South African golfing history, few clubs, if any, are able to claim a heritage like that of the Royal Johannesburg & Kensington Golf Club. The Club is the product of a merger of the former Royal Johannesburg Golf Club and the former Kensington Golf Club in 1998. Possibly the first merger of its kind in South Africa, it has produced a financially sound club with modernised facilities and a strong and supportive membership base. Essentially, the improvements to the Clubhouse and the two courses at Royal Johannesburg were funded from the sale of the Kensington property. The result is a superb facility, with two outstanding parkland golf courses ideally suited to preserve the value of both clubs, and meet the challenges of the 21st Century. The Johannesburg Golf Club was founded in 1891 and was located on the current premises as far back as 1909. It received its Royal Charter in 1931. On the occasion of the Club’s Centenary celebrations in 1991, the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews sent both its Captain and Chairman of its Rules Committee as official representatives.

Well-kept grounds furnished with kikuyu fairways and bent greens are one of the many factors that members and visitors alike are so enthralled with Parkview. Its sheer beauty is another reason. Tall Highveld trees line pristine fairways and gather around emerald greens providing a spectacular contrast to the Johannesburg skyline. The course itself is not said to be a difficult 18 holes but a fair round awaits you here. Even the late Bobby Locke thought so when he adopted Parkview as his home in 1936. The members are famous for their good natures and after the game an equally satisfying round at the 19th awaits you.

The Club is perfectly positioned just off the M1 highway with the main clubhouse situated between the 11th Avenue and Glenhove Street off-ramps. This makes the Club very central and easily accessible, with secure parking on site. Our golf course is a Robert Trent-Jones designed narrow park-style course which is both challenging and well-manicured with a par 70 layout of 6154m for men, and a par 72 for ladies playing at 5294m. The greens are fairly generous in size, which affords the golfer an excellent chance of scoring well when playing from the fairways. There is nothing better than having a pub lunch or a sundowner after golf on the verandah overlooking the 18th green and dam - a bit of paradise in Joburg!
